I like Harrods

It's been a while since I went to Harrods for a look around. I'm used to going to Selfridges from being based off Oxford Street for just over three years, I had forgotten about it sadly.
I was near it on Sunday and decided to pop in and I am glad I did. I've been there a hundred times before but after I grew out of the kids section, the Pet Kingdom was the top of my list. Whilst getting lost, as you do in department stores, I can across Picasso, Andy Warhol and some other artists in Harrod's very own art gallery. It's called the Halcyon Gallery and Mauro Perucchetti is currently one of the main exhibitors there at the moment.

This was inside the gallery. This amazing pice moved on the stand once a member of staff gave it a little nudge. I thought it was going to fall off but it never did.

I know it sounds strange but I do. As long as there are Marigolds to do so I'm happy to do it. It's therapeutic.

If your not a fan then let these tea towels help you decide. I got them from a company called Wash or Dry and they've made a rather mondane everyday chore become a pleasure and a bit of fun. Each towel has a game to help you decide with your flatmates, girlfriend, boyfriend ... who does what tonight.

Who doesn't like shopping? (Is it even legal to ask this question?)
It's in our DNA isn't it? Well it is for me. Enough of the rhetorical questions. I have stumbled across a shop and I want to hire a car and drive to it right now.
I'm at a moral crisis point where I know I should buy organic food and buy locally sourced goods but it can be pricey for someone of 25. I'm speaking for my tummy here. But I can not feel guilty about that and buy locally sourced pieces of art and all things beautiful for others (not likely) from this shop. It's called From.

I like interactive table menus

Yes, that's right 'interactive table menus.' It's called inamo (with no capital i, even though it's a name) and it's on Wardor Street in Soho and you need to go to it when you get paid in January as it's on the slightly pricey side for most 25 year olds.

It's on the small side but you won't notice that when your eyes are fixed down on your table. You order from an over head projected menu onto your table. There is an indented area on the right hand side that resembles a mouse. If you're left handed then good luck with that one!
It's not just a standard food and drinks menu, you can play games like Battleships with your fellow diner or others on your own and there's a spying camera called a 'chef cam' so you can have a peak in the kitchen too. You can have different patterns and pictures projected onto your table. I chose the festive random shuffle as it were. Also you can see where you are on google maps and see what else is about, order a taxi, yes, order a taxi, you read it right the first time and check out tubes. You can check o how much your spending and ask for a waiter to pop over and help with anything else your interactive table won't.

I like The Nutcracker

Yesterday I saw the ballet for the first time and I went to see The Nutcracker.

I used to do ballet when I was younger like most girls but I totally forgot that there is no speaking whatsoever during the performance so if you don't know the story it can be a little hard to follow. I gathered most of the first half and bought the program during the interval so I could properly grasp what was going on. It is a rather fascinating story which was written in 1950 according to my program. It has some fantastic classical music integrated into the story which you will recognise.

There's some great facts about the English National Ballet's efforts that go into the whole show:

Before any fabric is used, it is washed so it does not shrink after the costumes have been made. The Wardrobe Department do over 1,440 washed each year.

Each Sugar Plum Fairy costume requires over £2,000 worth of Swarovski crystals but they are kindly donated by Swarovski and they conveniently have their name over my entire program. They donated £10,000 worth for this season. Oh and there are over 400 on each of the Sugar Plum Fairy costumes.

The fabrics are imported from Germany, France, India and America to make all 400 costumes.

There are three wig makers, one head dress maker, one milliner and two dyers and distress makers (they make the rats look dirty and distress the fabrics.)

All in all it was really quite beautiful. I preferred the second half as there were more adult dancers who were on their points most of the time. I think the children who perform are brave and all that rubbish, but I much prefer the adult dancers. They have a real stage presence and are much more grand. They have very emotional performances and do some fantastic movements.

I do like a Christmas Party

Last night we had ours. It was amazing. Simples.
We hired out the Old Vic Tunnels. It's such an amazing venue, if you haven't been go right now. Ok, maybe check out when their next event is on but do go.
Yes it smells of damp but you can forgive it as it's just one big installation of art and fun.

I managed (somehow) to take some snaps on my iPhone to share.

Here's a mixture of them which include stars hanging from the ceiling, a burlesque dancer, lots of candles, balloons, alcohol, typography, giant moons, a seesaw and much more.

Yep, I said it.
I rarely use the 'l' word, love on my blog but like is just not true.

I've mentioned Alison's work before. When she collaborated with Craig Ward and with Rankin.

She has just launched a series of affordable goodies called Made By Alison Carmichael.

They're beautiful. Here are two examples, she's created 'Emergency Cards,' tags called 'Alice Tags' and 'It's The Thought That Counts' gift tags. I want them all and I will probably frame them or something.

And look at what Paul got me for Christmas!

I almost didn't like Starbucks

Had a slight run in with Starbucks at Clapham Common over the weekend.

Barista 1: "Can I take your order please?"

Moi: "Can I have a venti caramel frapaccino with no cream and coffee base please?"

Friend of mine: "Blimey, you know what you want Laila."

Moi: "Yep, I do."

Barista 1: "Would you like cream on top?"

Moi: "No, I just said no cream."

I exchange a small fortune for my drink.

Barista 2: "Iced mocha bla bla bla with on cream."

Barista 2 continues to make drinks for the next few customers while I wait.
He then looks at me confused why I have not taken what looks like an upside-down Irish coffee with ice.

Barista 2: "What are you waiting for madam?

Moi: "A venti caramel frapaccino with no cream and coffee base."

Barista 2: "This is it." Pointing at the upside-down Irish coffee.

Moi: "No it isn't."

Barista 1: "It's a frapaccino she ordered." Repeats order and scribbles on a new cup.

Barista 2: "Here you go madam, sorry about the wait." He pulls out a frapaccino with cream.

Moi: "I ordered it with no cream."

Barista 1 & 2 have a slight argument while I roll my eyes. My friends said I had a face like thunder. I disagree, just no expression.

Barista 1: "Here you are madam, I am so sorry about the wait. Here are three vouchers while entitle you to any free drink of your choice."

Moi: "Thank you very much, that's very kind."

The frapaccino had no coffee base.

Fail.

However three free drinks (would hate to have a lisp and say that out loud, three free drinks) is rather kind. They are supposed to be the company while make your order, no matter how fussy. I could have said soya, extra shot bla bla like people do but it's like ordering anything you want. Like a pizza minus or plus a topping. Simples.

The vouchers are quite sweet:

Slurpee who are an Australian drinks company were being mugged off by Coke. That's the only way I can explain it without quoting the video below.
They decided to make one small change for one day and had ROI of well over 200%.

I like illustrations

And last night I got to be in one.

If you like illustration you might remember this piece. It's all the places to drink in Brighton.
It's Matt's and it's wicked.

Last night he drew on a huge wall in Jelly's Charlotte Mews office. It's a selection of London's advertising agencies in his illustration and it has a few people darted about left, right and centre.

The agencies were asked to come up with something that represents their agency in a fun way. Paul and I represented Ogilvy and our image was a birthday cake as David Ogilvy would have been 100 years old this year.

I checked into Hogwarts yesterday on mine and Paul's train journey from Leeds.

We went to an event called Inspire Create where we had a book club set up to help young creatives. We met a lot of talented people which was great and I hope Paul and I helped them out.

Paul and I are taking part in an event in Leeds called 'inspire. create.' It's at the end of October, Thursday 27th to be exact. We are going to be there all day and we are there to talk to creatives about their work, help them with any questions they have about their work or the industry, do book crits and just be on hand to help anyone we can.

I like hair

I went to Salon International over the weekend.

For those of you who aren't hairdressers, it's an exhibition where brands exhibit (well der!) and you can buy their products and get them into your salons for your clients.
It's really buzzing with people getting their hair cut live on stage, not just models but people who go to the event, catwalk shows, product demonstrations, lots of music, half naked models (girls and boys) and a lot fo hairspray.
It's like a sweet shop for kids and my best friend (on twitter @Alanna_Burns) owns a salon so I go every year.

On Monday night I went to Disney's offices in Hammersmith to watch a special preview of 'The Help' which is coming into cinemas soon in the UK.

It's based on a book and is really very very good. It's funny, sad, shocking and you want more. It's 2.5 hours long but I promise you, it doesn't feel like it and you do still want more. I don't want to give too much away but I didn't think it would be my cup of tea but it was.
I recommend going to watch it and if your soppy like me, bring some tissues.

The Iron Man statue is the genuine and was used in the film by Robert Downey Junior.

I like swearing

Occasionally a good rant with a few f's involved is good. I came across a site where you can give money every time you swear. You're thinking of a swear box yes? This one is an online one that searches through your monthly tweets and tallies how many times you've sworn and you can decide how much each word is worth and donate at the end.

I do give to charity a lot. Yesterday I did to Eaves, I did the London to Brighton this year in June for the British Heart Foundation and ran 5k for Cancer Research UK last year. With this site you can donate to who you like.

I like electric swing

The Mayor's Thames Festival was over the weekend and I went along to the Electric Swing Speakeasy event.

It was brilliant. There is no other way to describe it.

There was a live band, a dance floor, Charleston dance teachers, Swing dance teachers, professional dancers, beat boxers, ice cream vans, whiskey cocktails, Pimms, beer, fish and chips and market and craft stalls. People had come out of the woodwork dressed up in 1920's, 30's and 40's get up from head to toe.

The event was in the shadow of the London Eye and it was a great atmosphere. I took a lot of pictures and videos on my iPhone. I forgot my posh camera! What an error!

A dance teacher encouraging people to partner up with him. And they did. The dance floor was packed.

Here was a bicycle set up within the construction of the bar. There's a competition to see how many miles it'll rally up over the two day event. I predicted 555 miles. Let's wait and see if I win.

Ketchup, jam and chocolate sauce are a favourite of Ariel. I prefer muddy puddles but each to their own.
Ariel have got a really lovely way of getting the whitest clothes dirty with an online site connected to a real life installation. The video explains it more but the cheery on the cake is that after dirtying the piece of clothing, it's sent you you so you really can tell how good Ariel washing power is.

I like a wapping bit of dinner

I had a client dinner* last week.
*there was no client.

It was in Wapping Power Station, it's called The Wapping Project.
The space was really raw, industrial, big, full of equipment and almost futuristic.
I took some pictures of the space. It might look a bit cold because of the colours, machinery and vast space but it was a very welcoming experience and fully booked so buzzing with chitter chatter.

Not only was I sitting in a power station eating duck amongst other things like cold cucumber soup (not nice at all, it looked like a face mask in a bowl.) There was a Yohji Yomamoto exhibition on in another room called Yohji Makes Waves.

Yohji is a fashion designer and he has used the space next door to my table to hang a wedding dress upside-down over a lake. You can buy a ticket for £5 to be rowed underneath it with a guy manning the boat in pretty much pitch black.

I like a challenge

I've been challenged to wear a new outfit everyday excluding footwear and outer-wear for as long as I can keep it up. It has started today and here's my picture (and my latest hair colour.)
Wish me luck and me know what you think of my outfits.

Day 26 was yesterday and I wish I had a thicker jumper on as it was cold! I was working rather late and there was no one in the office to take a snap so my lovely housemate did it for me. It's a light turquoise v-neck jumper from a shop called Famous Boutique in Melbourne, Australia. It has a lovely print on it that's very Rob Ryan esq. I love his work and would love one of his prints. I've taken a close up of the jumper which is underneath with my wanky Hipsamatic App on my iPhone4, but it looks good so panic not. Oh, and my trousers are from Zara and are those black Aladdin ones, as I call them.

Day 25 was rather smart for a client meeting. A pencil skirt which is actually from Primark, bargain! And a chiffon black shirt from Guess?

Day 24 was still summery even though it was actually quite cold. I'm wearing a white skirt from Scarlets, a black T-Shirt from H&M and a red sleeveless cardigan from Primark.

Day 23 is hot hot hot out there. Britain is currently breaking all records for heat waves at this time of year. It's the very beginning of October and it feels like August and I certainly look like it is August out there.
I had the photo taken at an odd time of day so I took the liberty of taking a close up shot in better light of the floral pattern on my Primark dress. I also have new, more purple hair. Hopefully tomorrow it'll show up better.

Yes, it's striking and stands out amongst the pin stripe Canary Wharf crowd. Someone has to.

Today's outfit is day 22. A floral skirt and gold netted top from my Mum's shop and flats from Faith in Topshop.

Yesterday was day 21 and was full of polka dots. Well, from the waste down anyway.
A white netted top from my Mum's shop, Scarlet's in Weybridge, Surrey. A white strappy top from H&M, a navy polka dot skirt from Primark and navy polka dot flats from Dorothy Perkins.

Day 20 is today as I wasn't here yesterday and it's a black silk dress from BikBok.

Day 19 is a bit late. I've been on holiday for a week. This was Monday's outfit. I made a slight error as I am wearing jeggings that I've worn before. However, the person who set me the challenge failed to notice (yes, he's a man) and he's allowed me to continue. My jumper is from Primark and the tan is real.

Day 18 is a bit of a sparkly number. Sparkly top from Guess and jeans from Dorothy Perkins. Still haven't made my mind up to what action I should do now. Suggestions are welcome...

Day 17 is inspired by a superhero as I have bright blue leggings on form Primark. A black t-shirt from Uniqlo and a white New York top which is from a New York market stall.

Day 16 (yesterday) was quite relaxed in terms of clothes. Grey jeans from River Island, my Office brogues and a union jack t-shirt I wore to The Royal Wedding, it's from ASOS.

Day 15 follows on from Friday's print nicely with some printed trousers from Topshop and a black t-shirt from Supre (Melbourne) and my silver Dune flats.

Day 14 was a leopard print day, I have a leopard skirt from Supre (Melbourne), leopard M&S tights and a cream shirt from Miss Selfridge with a leather collar. My grey heels are from Shoon. If you follow me on twitter (@LailaMilborrow) you'll know Friday was a hectic day so this picture is taken at home on

Friday night.

Day 13 is a bit of a dark photo but I've added a brighter one to the post as well. I'm attempting to make an animation from them all you see. Today because it's rather grey outside I've got on a Henry Holland skirt on with flowers on it and a lime green top which is actually my Mum's and has no label. And because it's a bit nippy outside I've got some good M&S tights on with my Office brogues.

Day 12 consists of a white shirt from the ground floor of Topshop's Oxford Circus branch, leggings from my Mum so I have no idea where they are from and my Dune flats.

Day 11 consists of a Biba top, you can't see the front in the picture but it's got the name and logo sewn in gold with gold and bronze sequens. Google Biba if you don't know them (shame on you) and no it's not Bieber. I then go rather cheap from the waste down with Primark leggings and a skirt but then recover with my Office brogues.

Day 10 on this speedy Monday consists of an H&M blue leopard print dress with burgundy River Island leggings and Dune silver flats (oh and new hair.)

Day 9 is the end of week two. I have a very colourful top that's from a boutique in Marbella and River Island jeans with the Dune silver flats.

Day 8, yesterday I wore a silk shirt from Topshop, Primark purple leggings and Office brogues.

Day 7 is a Magic Eye outfit according to bystanders. It's a floral dress from a concession in Topshop called R&R London, Wolford tights (they really are the best) and Office brogues. I had to put my specs on this afternoon as my contacts are hurting, they're navy and by Chanel. (Had to just say that!)

Day 6. My pose is getting progressively worse but hopefully it'll look good at the end. Today I am wearing a Topshop navy shirt (it also comes in beige) with a Wolford black top underneath, Primark grey leggings and silver Dune flats.

Day 5. The first week is over. I was inspired by Queen this morning and I have them on my t-shirt. It's from a concession in Topshop with a plain white top from H&M underneath and leggings I bought from a shoot that weren't used. No idea where they are from.

Have a lovely Bank Holiday and I'll be chatting to you on Tuesday.

Day 4 is a jumper with lots of string on it, it catches on doors, jewellery and tables but I love it. It's from a boutique in Covent Garden but it has no label so I have no idea which one. I've got some Topshop leggings on and Office brogues.

Day 3 is polka dot heaven or overload depending on whether you like the pattern as much as me:

Primark Polka dot tights, Dorothy Perkins navy polka dot shoes and Yumi polka dot and bow dress.

The tights now have a ladder in them thanks to a piece of jewellery so they'll be coming off shortly.

Day 2 it's raining cats and dogs outside so I took very wintery for August:

Last night at 8:30 Britain was encouraged by social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to go and make a cuppa and sit down and relax. What a great idea since the rest of Britain was rioting. So many people uploaded pictures of cups of tea, sofa scenes with their friends and generally boosting moral in people's living rooms.

It's taken me forever to do this post so firstly, sorry.
A few weeks ago I went onto the Selfridges rooftop in London, which hasn't been open to the public since WW2 for a Bompas & Parr extravaganza.
If you don't know Bompas & Parr, I wrote about them some time ago here and here.
They're both in The Metro below:

With thanks to Miss Immy I was able to go to this after entering her competition.
I took a lot of photographs to help shape this post so you can really get a feel for what it was like. It really was brilliant and similar to the Jaques Townhouse, everyone was in character and you felt like you were a part of the magic.
It was callled The Truvia Voyage of Discovery.
'Truvia' is a natural sweetener found in a plant from Iguazu Falls in South America. It's calorie free too! Yes, calorie free. I have a load of sachets I crammed into my bag, if you want one, send on your postal address and you're more than welcome to have one.

You started by going to a special lift that was only open for this event. You were met by British jungle suited ladies and upon your arrival several floors up were these rocks. I was given a small rock and was then told that I needed to acquire one more to exchange for a drink on my travels. It all sounded rather adventurous.

Here was what I couold exchange my rock for. A very alcoholic drink!

Witty warning Signs

There were some great characters, offering to explain what you had to do and to assist in any way they could.

The idea was you had to get into a boat and paddle around the lake. There was a girl in the middle with a bowl of strawberries with the Truvia sugar to dip them in to and more crystals which you could exchange for a medicine bottle of booze. It's worth getting wet for.

You would think it would be a young thing but there were the cutest old couple who got soaked. I felt bad taking the pictures and giggling a little bit but they were in very high spirits. Come to think of it, they may have been drunk.

I finally exchanged my crystal from the strawberry girl and gave it to another girl who hid in the middel of the lake by the flowing waterfall. I did get soaked, trying to row, hold a brolly and take pictures what a bit too many things to multitask.

It tasted so good and sweet. Really delicious, it went right to my head and I loved every drop of it.
On my way out I got given a Selfridges bag with one of the Truvia plants in. I ate a leaf off the plant as soon as I got it. It's so so so sweet and tasted yummy. Sugar with a bit of leaf taste. I must have looked like a right nutcase, half drunk and eating a plant in my bag. Oh well!

I like signage

I stayed at The Hoxton Hotel last weekend and it is a lovely hotel that's in a 'too cool for school' area (although it had six kebab shops in walking distance.)
Around my room was various pieces of signage. The messages are quite boring themselves but the Hoxton lot have infused them with charm. Here are two examples, the safe in your wardrobe and the window. All called 'Stupid Sign Number x'

The website displays the charm too. Here's information about their pillows and bedding:

An interesting way to navigate to the bedroom. Not quite sure if I like it, is she a prostitute? Can I order one on a speed dial from my room?

If you do order one, you'll be pleased to know that the hotel takes pride on its bedspread.

The Hoxton Hotel does an offer every so offen where it has 500 rooms that go for £1. They go in half an hour, this is a fact because the manager of the hotel told me. I always apply and never get one. Know I know why, but it won't stop me trying next time.

I like food

I actually love food and talk about it quite a lot. Today the sun in shining and Paul and I were taken out for a bite to eat. I say a bite, but I mean a big mouthful. We went to The Refinery in Canary Wharf and it was a really charming place with tasty, simple grub. They had little extra bits which made it rather charming.

The dressing was in a small glass measuring jug, like a Pirex one. I would have stolen it but that's not really lunch etiquette is it?

I'm a bit greedy and can't quite determine when I'm full so I had pudding. I would call it dessert but the menu said pudding.

The bill arrived in a tin bus accompanied with bus passes for all at the table

The bus pass has the names and postcodes of the other restaurants in the Drake & Morgan chain on one side and the other a key to where they are on the map of London.

All rather charming and all outside in the sunshine.
I recommend.

I like plants

On Thursday I got on the Thames Clipper and was greeted by what seemed to be a boat that belonged to Poison Ivy. I then saw a head rest cover with 'fresh air zone' on it and thought 'please don't let the windows be open because it's cold outside.'

I was wrong. It was an ambient idea for Me and My Plant. who want the public to have more indoor plants. I was offered a brown paper bag with a little plant in it. It's called a Sanseviera which was July's plant of the month and apparently they're really easy to look after.

They like music, no sunlight, and even came with their own instructions. I've names my Sanseviera Collin and he's now on my desk. he was a little droopy this morning but he's had some water and looks much better.
Those who follow me on twitter will know that I have been asking what's the best desk plant to have that doesn't need sunlight or much else. Fate has brought me to Collin and I hope he'll be happy at my desk.

I love Jacques Townhouse

My flatmate Sarah invited me to this Jacques Townhouse party last night. It was amazing!
I managed to take a lot of pictures with my iPhone through the night but Sarah took her posh camera out so I hope to steal some of those later on and I have used two from the sight, they're easy to spot.

Firstly we waited in the rain outside this lovely townhouse:

And were greeted by some very charming ladies with bright red lipstick and an array of fascinators along with their clipboards and we were given a key to the house:

Upon our entrance we were greeted at the reception which was full of an array of wonderful characters. A host and a hostess of the house.

The house was like something out of Alice in Wonderland. It was magical and I know that sounds ridiculous but it really was! There was an amazing attention to detail and fantastic finishing touches on everything. Vases, cakes, glasses, uniforms, there were waiters in suits, maids in french maids outfits, red lippy everywhere, top hats, brickabrack on shelves. Just superbly executed.

We were entitled to two free Jacques drinks through our night along with a chance to have either our hair and makeup done, including some lavish eyelashes, our nails done by some very skilled ladies or a massage in the Beauty Parlour. In the Wardrobe of Wonders we could dress up in vintage clothes and have our pictures taken on a Jacques set. There was an Enchanted Garden but it was raining. Yes, raining in July in Britain. There was also a fashion expert from Glamour who gave a talk in the Trendtellers room, which we missed because we were having too much fun dressing up with clothes, wigs, glasses and jewellery.

I like Harry Potter

And this weekend the last film made an amazing £23 million breaking box office records in the UK.
Some people don't get the phenomena and then the rest do.

I tried explaining this to one of my brothers who 'doesn't get it.' And all I said was this...

I've grown up with Harry Potter. I was 14 when the first film came out and now 25 with the last. That's just over a decade of my life and just over half of it. I am a big fan of fantasy films with a dusting of magic. A bit like Stardust, I like that film too.
J K Rowling is British and in plenty of her recent interviews she tells us that the cast/films were 99% British. I love that home grown aspect of her and the films. It's a worldwide franchise and it was born and bred in Britain.
(I shan't break out into God Save The Queen don't panic.)
You become fond of the characters so quickly and watch them all grow. Harry Potter is full of great British actors, Emma Thompson, Maggie Smith, Julia Walters, John Cleese, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman are just a few of them who've dazzled our screens through the years.

What's not to like?

Saying that the final film didn't really need to be in 3D. They didn't make the most of it in the directing or editing but I admire them for doing with it and 'moving with the times.'

I haven't had time to watch this yet but it's all the trailers in one. Let me know if it's worth keeping on the post please.
One thing I do love about all the opening title sequences is that the camera goes through the Warner Brothers logo in every film. Nicely done.

I've just watched it and it can stay. Funny how the films come out in November or July.

I like chocolate

This video is really boring but it did tell me you can print in 3D in chocolate. Great piece of kit for personalising presents to fellow chocoholics.

This is also the best place for anything chocolate. It's a shop I've been in to in Brighton and it's called 'choccywoccydoodah.'

And I did it yesterday.

My Stats:
54 miles from Clapham Common to Brighton beach front.
I did a whole 30 minutes training in total for the ride.
I borrowed a bike from my brother's girlfriend.
I didn't know how to change the gears until I was cycling on the way to the start line.
A bee flew into my face.
As did a twig.
I have cuts and bruises galore on my legs.
St.John's Ambulance patched up my leg as it was bleeding, no idea what I did to it.
I saw three people in neck braces.
It took me 7.5 hours to complete with food stops.

Cycling on the road was a bit scary. Sort of "Hello bus, you're five inches away from my back tire!"

A banana man on a BMX, I'm lead to believe they have one gear?

This lovely lady behind the banana man was spraying water on our faces and filling up our water bottles. The kindness of strangers was incredible. She called the spraying a 'Surrey water facial.'

I like dogs

And I look like one.

Not something you hear every girl say but with Pedigree I can find my lookalike.
It's called Doggleganger. It's rather sweet and the message is (if you haven't worked it out already) that dogs look like their owners. Standard.

The only thing I would say is the lookalike bit is a bit clinical and the process itself is very charming so for me it clashes slightly.

I went last night with Paul and we picked up two. We're ecstatic to pick them up and a big thanks to archibald ingall stretton... for letting us do it.

This is for North Face. Although it looks a little tampered with, it's a real shot and is stuck to the outside of a newsagent on Goodge Street.

This is our 'Best Steal.' Last year's awards ceremony we decided to get a bit pissed and stole a big chip prop. We took it on a trip around London and entered it into the 'make your own category.' The best thing about it was, The Chip Shop didn't give us a Chip Award, but a framed certificate and we can have the award when the big chip is returned. Royal Mail have a bit of a task coming their way now!
The Chip Shop Awards also photographed the award in shops, bars, pubs, butchers and so on for us. The effort they went to was lovely so another thank you.

Today is mine and Paul's last day at archibald ingall stretton... We have spent almost three years here and this is a little goodbye really.
We've loved every minute of our time here and would recommend this place to anyone.

Winning 12 awards at the DMA's last year was an incredible feeling and what a lot of fun that night was.

Playing a spot of football at the Emirates two years running was fun too.

We're moving to another great agency and we start Wednesday. Wish us luck.

It's a lovely A3 newsletter made up of local adverts, news and some journalism. this is issue 14 but it's unfortunately called 'Food for Thought.' I will excuse the pun as it's not made by the monopoly that is Starbucks. It's (and I quote) 'now in 100 coffee bars, cafes, restaurants, pubs, sport clubs, barbers and salons across Sussex every Friday.' Oh, and it's recycled.

Today I had the day off and took the bus to Westminster Abbey. There's nothing like it. The day before The Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
There are people camping outside Westminster Abbey and I got a few shots of them. They are from all over the world. Canada, America have set up camp as well as the British. It was such a wonderful atmosphere with Union Jack's everywhere, hats, bunting, tents, clothes, cakes, rugs, you name it.

I walked down The Mall and there are people camping along the road. I'm not talking young people either. It's mostly 40 year olds plus. A lot of grandparents who should be in a bed tonight and not in a tent. There were a lot of flags decorating tents here. Australian, American, Canadian, Jamaican, Philippine and more.

If anyone watched This Morning, I found a lady who went to their tea party in blue above.

I then walked around Buckingham Palace which was equally as patriotic and full of more campers and TV crews.

I thought I would then go to Covent Garden and see the street artists and market stalls.

I feel that I've walked miles today and I probably have. But there's always time for baking for tomorrow's party.

If you can't tell I got a new camera and went snappy happy!

I've come across quite a few this week. I can't find the first one I ever saw by Nintendo Wii for Mario or Wario. If any of you can find the link, please send it on to me. I may have blogged about it before, I'm going to have a look after this.

The first is from Carlsberg which is alright, good depth of field. Well, being out in space helps I guess. The music is really quite special and helps make it.

I also saw this Desperados one. It's beer with a hint of tequilla in it and it's cheap so is going down well over here. I like the interaction within the page and it's a nice build up. Here's some screen shots.

Macmillan are knitting a very long scarf. There's a lovely video here, it takes a while to load but worth it.

They've got a live knitting machine where you can add a knitted pattern to the very long scarf by submitting what makes you feel warm. People at home who are recovering or suffering form cancer get cold and stay in a lot more and crank up the heating. As you would expect their heating bill is sky high and they become suffers of fuel poverty. I hadn't heard of fuel poverty either but it's something cancer suffers do not need. Here's their site.

This is clever. It's simple which I am a fan of. It's a surprise test drive in Dubai by Nissan and the VO sounds like Duffman! Nissan blocked in other SUV drivers then left them to move the car. 78% of participants signed up for a test drive.

I went on a D&AD typography course on Tuesday and it was really very good. It was held at Central St Martin's which is a bit of a shit hole but they're moving soon thank goodness. Phil Baines held the day's course and I recommend it.
Sicilian Avenue was close by which was good.

I don't want to give too much away as D&AD might kill me for giving away their lesson plans! However learning about the history of typography was fascinating and now it's like being hypnotized by letters and every time I look at them I can tell where they originated from.
Here are some different picture of typography from inside Central St Martin's corridors:

The x height on our motorway sign posts is 12 inches. And, have you ever noticed there is no / in our 1/2 mile? Just a thought...

Some of my handy work. really good to get dirty with paints and brushes.

Another exercise we did used distance to help us with layouts. Looking at our road names helped.

Apparently quite a few people I know have heard of Dans Le Noir.
Have you?
It was absolutely fantastic. If someone asked me to dinner and explained it was going to be in the pitch black, I would think twice about saying yes. It was a good thing I had no idea what we were doing until I met our blind waiter.
Have a look on their website as I don't want to give too much away but I do want an interesting blog post. Tricky!
On to the food. I had a three course meal, all I knew was that is had a starter, main, desert and it feel under the category of meat. You can choose meat, fish, vegetarian (why would any choose that?!) or the surprise. Every course was delicious and it felt like I was eating the jous or puree of each ingredient. Such intense flavours and you do end up using your fingers on the plate to see if you've eaten everything. I did use my knife and fork but goodness knows how I did it. I didn't spill anything or dribble food down myself. All in all a fabulous, sensory experience and one to recommend.

I went to The V&A yesterday to go to the Imperial Chinese Robes from the Forbidden City exhibition. The robes date back to as early as the 1500's and some of them take over 1000 hours to make.
Each robe on show was for a different part of the Emperor or Empress's duties during their lives. They even had the same robes in Summer and Winter styles and materials.
They were made to look the same on the inside and the outside, there is no lining inside the robes, just the same pattern if you were to turn it over.
The robes are very large, which surprises me as they were for very petite people. They are full of bright colours, symbolic animals and symmetrical patterns.
Very beautiful and I recommend going to see this for £5 until 27th February 2011.

The best bit of the campaign I saw last week in Shortlist was an advertorial:

You automatically read it in an Australian accent and it is beautifully written, the best bits include the lad from Britain called Roddy or 'Roddo, Rodmeister, Rod mate and Rodders'as Brand & Dan put it.
They also mention a 'broody Judy,' the Ashes, Michael Buble and 'singing from the same hymn sheet.'

For £250 you can eat sushi off a model here over the Valentines Day weekend.

It's news to me that it's an art form in Japan to eat sushi of a naked lady.
The event is very secretive and diners will only be told where the event will be held on the day. This dining experience is called gastro-egalitarianism. If anyone goes. Let me know how it was.

Ever had that moment in your car where you can't please your passengers with your choice of music? The latest piece of technology called The Parrot Asteroid is a radio that allows you to tell it what song to play. (See what they did with the name there?)
It sounds all too good to be true, I'm just waiting for the price to be released.

This video might make you think twice before snorting cocaine.
It won a Cannes Lion Gold this year for best directing. The young director has only been doing his job a few months and this piece is brilliant. His name is Mark Jewitt and The Gate have him on their books if you want to get hold of him. This film was for The Scottish Government anti-drugs campaign.
One of his tactics was filming the dealer underwater and freezing the microphone to create a cackle.
I want to work with him, do you?

At the weekend I saw some merry men singing on the Tube. It was the last tube of the night, it was snowing outside, it's Christmas, could life be sweeter?
Here's what I caught on my iPhone.

This type of stuff has never happened to me until a few days ago and it was really good fun. They even got a few claps when they got off the tube.

Last night was the 2010 DMA's. Messy is not quite the word to sum it up. It was brilliant and mine and Paul's work got a Bronze for o2. Our agency got 8 golds, 2 silvers another bronze and the Grand Prix. I have never been prouder. I also got to meet Rory Sutherland, who as we all know is just a legend and yes I was a little worse for wear as you can see below.

To top it off, I opened this morning's Campaign and saw the piece of direct mail we entered into the DMA's in Campaign's Top 10 Direct Campaigns. I'm not sure whether it was the sleep deprivation, the cold I have had for a while, the hangover or the joy but I cried.

I spent 6 weeks attempting to learn The Waltz last year and it's tricky to say the least.
These dancers in the new VW Polo advert are perfecting The Tango and this video gives you a bit of background to the advert.
When it came on the TV I was turned away and the sound track made me turn round. It's a great tune and is avaiable on iTunes now.

What do you think and am I the only person I know who has attempted ballroom dancing?

Here is his face in today's Metro. The 'Behind The Idea' page would not allow a team photo so the good news is for Paul, he looks like he's done all the work.
It feels pretty amazing to know your work is being read by a few more people than who read this blog.

I took a few pictures last week and only got round to uploading them.

These sunflower seeds are all hand made and hand painted. There's hundreds and thousands of them.

I like these shots, they have a mirror in them so it feel like you're getting a 360 degrees view.

In Covent Garden they have huge baulbauls hanging from the ceiling and a huge Xmas tree with 50,000 lights on. IF you kiss under its mistletoe, the lights turn on.

I got my Metro this morning and glared at the very top of the page. A free Galaxy to a few thousand readers. That stuff never happens to me and sure enough at Victoria station, a lovely lady gave me one which is sitting in the fridge ready for me to eat with a cuppa at 11.
I'm off to make my cuppa now.
